Becoming A Leader Takes Time

Many people have taken the plunge and joined the world of Affiliate marketing in the last couple of years.

Affiliate marketing allows you to work for yourself and put your skills, hard work and independence to work for you.

First of all, lets cover just exactly what affiliate marketing is. Affiliate marketing is when you sell or get leads for someone else's service or product. Basically, it's a legal agreement between the merchant and the affiliate (YOU) where sales of a product or service are compensated by paying commissions to the affiliate (Agian YOU). When a company needs some help making sales, and they allow people to sign up as affiliates (YOU), they are willing to pay a commission or a flat rate per lead or sale ($$). Depending on the company, this percentage or flat rate will vary. Affiliate marketing can be used to make a decent income several ways. You can use a website, a blog, newsletter, email, ads etc. The list goes on and on.

Affiliate marketing is a real business and should be treated as such. Success in any business will not happen over night. It still takes time and effort and perhaps the dreaded "Start up capital" to get your affiliate marketing business up and running. However, if you are persistent, determined and willing to give it your all, affiliate marketing can be the perfect career opportunity for you and the most likely business model to get you up and running the soonest. Again, this is where following the advice of an experienced marketer really helps you out big time. Like I said before, it makes no sense to lose money because of lack of experience. The experience is out there, and I am going to show you where to find it.

Once you have some strategies worked out you can always expand into new and different niches and fields. You should take time to know your product and your market or who you're promoting it to. When you understand both well you begin to build up credibility and build yourself to be an expert in that field. That's when you really start to shine. People will begin to trust you and start to trust in the products and services that you offer. They will feel much better about giving their business and their hard earned money over to you rather than others. This will result in higher sales revenue for you and a much stronger business, which means much more freedom for you and your family.

Don't be afraid to diversify. Like I said befor, or maybe I didn't say this "There are many ways to skin a cat". Once you get up and running there is no reason why you can't move into different fields and niches. This way you are protecting yourself if one of your niches takes a breather or goes cold for a while. For example if you were promoting, let's say for the sake of argument, Aesbestos covered coffee thermoses. Well, 20 years ago, you could have been making a mint, but today not so much. I know that's extreme, but I only have a short amount of time to get my point across. You get the picture.

Another little tip is to stay on top of current trends in the market. If you want to be considered an expert in your field you have to know all of the new and hot buzz about your field. Be prepared to change if you need to. The world of internet marketing is continually changing. It's a mad house out there. By staying flexible and having a willingness to change you can make these changes work for you rather than against you. Remember, what was working last month may not be working this month.

Finally, don't give up. It is true. Many of these affiliate marketing businesses do fail. However, the reason isn't due to poor products or ideas or even because of the business model doesn't work. The reason for the higher rate of failure is because people give up too soon. They get frustrated and just quit. Boo Hoo!! Just kidding I'm not that insensitive. It takes time to build any business. Just keep at it. Try to do something everyday to promote your business. If you keep it up you will eventually start to see results. This warrants repeating, "Please get help". Don't try to do it on your own, it may sound simple and easy and beleive me it can be, but just get started on the right foot. It will save you time, money for sure, energy and peace of mind.

Affiliate marketing is a great way to make money and a way to "Fire Your Boss" and work for yourself. You can put your skills and creative knowledge to work for you and not others. Affiliate marketing does take work. You need to build it up like any other business. However, if you stick to the advice in this article, don't give up, and get some professional help, you'll soon find that your business is booming. Affiliate marketing is a great career opportunity. Building Customer Loyalty

The key to business success is building customer loyalty. Whether it's an MLM business or an everyday brick and mortar business, holding on to existing customers is as important, if not more important than soliciting new customers to keep feeding your list with fresh subscribers.

Customer loyalty is the key to your business growth and profit, because loyal customers generate a continual revenue stream through repeat purchases and they bring your business-increased profitability at a lower cost. As in any other revenue building business, to succeed as an online marketer, you will need to understand all the secrets that are available to keep growing your business and apply them immediately. So how do you build business relationships to gain customer loyalty?

Everywhere you go online they tell you that you must have a list to succeed. "The Money Is In The List". Ever heard that before? Of course you have.

Although it's very true, it doesn't get you very far until you understand exactly what makes your subscribers and customers eager to pay for your products. Over and over and over again. If you don't know how to build a business relationship to keep your subscribers enthusiastic, eagerly waiting for your newsletters and articles and rush to buy your product without any regard for brand, your list is virtually worthless.

No pun intended.

Hands down the main key factor of a responsive email list is the Trust Factor. If you earn your subscribers trust, you will have much more success when it comes to advertising and selling products and information to your list. Without the trust of your subscribers, they will be leery when it comes to pulling out their credit card to buy from you.

Below are some simple steps and techniques you can use to build business relationships and gain and keep customer loyalty.

1) - Earn your subscribers' trust. Honesty is essential to earning customers' trust, and that trust is the key to gaining customer loyalty. Earning customers trust is important to the success of any business. Being honest goes hand in hand with not hiding anything. Let your subscribers know your Identification and contact information, such as your name, physical address, email address and telephone number. It is important that you let your subscribers know how to contact you for assistance. The more they know about you as a person, the more they'll trust you. And when it comes to asking for money, nothing is more important than trust. This is the reason why running an online business can potentially be twice as hard as running a brick and mortar store. You miss out on the face to face between you and your customers. Your customers have to feel like they know you, and that is why I am a huge fan of online video. At least they get to see you, even though you don't get to see them.

2) - Give Them What They Want. When your subscribers sign up to your ezine or newsletter, they are doing so for a reason. They want the information you are telling them they will receive. Keep giving them that, and theyíll be happy as can be. Diverge from that, and you could find yourself losing subscribers quicker than you can get them.

Tips: Ask Your Subscribers what they want. Don't guess. Use this great, easy to use online tactic to find out exactly what your subscribers will buy from you or what subject they want to learn about. You could hold a contest. By sending them simple questionnaires or surveys you will get a sense of your market's needs, wants and preferences. Give the winner a quality prize and/ or gift that he can't find elsewhere. Getting your subscribers involved like this will also keep them interested in your emails and help get more emails opened. It will also make them feel like they are part of something. We all want to be part of something. Don't we?

3) - Don't bombard your subscribers with a ton of useless junk. Warning: Be sure to be selective in what you promote to your subscribers of course. If you suggest a product that turns out to be a scam or hype, your subscribers will likely blame you first for recommending it to them. You really can't afford to take a hit like this to your reputation. In case you haven't noticed yet, bad news travels really fast on the internet.

Two thing you really need to watch, as a publisher, is how to advertise your product or service and what products you endorse. Nothing ticks off a subscriber more than thinking a publisher is only in it for the money. This will happen if you advertise too much, or if you advertise the wrong products too often. Believe me, I've made that mistake before and it takes a long time to recover. Sending out an email newsletter with too many ads and a little or no quality information will hurt your reputation.

Remember, content is king, and there is no better place to prove that than to your subscribers. You have everything to lose, and nothing at all to gain by stuffing your Ezine with ads, hype and crap. The ads in your Ezine and newsletters aren't the only things you have to worry about. This also includes any ads you send out that are separate from your regularly scheduled newsletter. Sending out an ad each day is not the way to go if you want to build customer loyalty. It is the way to go if you want everyone to unsubscribe from your list. It's o.k. to send emails and random notes with ads, but personalize them every once in awhile and give away some free stuff also.

4) - Make your subscribers your friends! Give your subscribers a good sense of who you are. It is important that your subscribers see you as a real person, because they will likely never meet you in person. One thing every successful publisher does is just talk about whatever is on their mind in each issue of their Ezine and newsletters. They may talk about their family, their favorite sports team, politics, the weather, anything thatís going on. They usually ask the reader to write back a few comments about it, or the reader will just write back without being asked to. This creates a bond between the publisher and the reader that could result in future sales and future partnerships. This also a great way to create content for your blogs and websites. Search engines like Google love new content, and comments are exactly that. New unsolicited free content.

5) - Over Deliver. Nothing makes people happier than knowing you pay attention to them. Make sure your customers and potential are clients delighted by giving them more than they expected. After they order your product or sign up for your publication, give them a gift or a bonus that wasn't advertised, in addition to any gifts or bonus you promised they would get. I'm not talking about any ebook or software they can download from any website. Give something that no one or only a few other people are giving away. This kind of gift and bonus says that you put a lot of attention and thought into helping them succeed. Something that you created yourself. They will be able to pick up on that.

Remember, you are dealing with real, intelligent, educated people. Not a mob of hungry cattle. These guys are usually smarter and better educated than most of us. Keep that in mind. Don't try to give them a bunch of hype or they will be gone forever. It's kind of hard to get them back once they smell a scam or anything that could even be considered dishonest. In other words, don't tell them you are making $10,000.00 a month if you're not. I would rather listen to somebody making $500.00 a month and is honest about it. Also from time to time and in special events send free gifts just for the heck of it. By continuously over delivering, your subscribers will realize that you are trying to help them learn what they need to know, and they will appreciate it when you give them the tools and information they need to succeed. This is obviously geared more towards strong relationship and they stay loyal customers longer.

6) - Help Them Out. Besides giving your subscribers what they want, helping them with whatever they need help with is the best way to earn customer loyalty. While this works on an individual basis, instead of taking care of all of your subscribers at once, the people you are able to help will be very grateful, and will probably tell their friends, colleagues and neighbors about you. Positive word-of-mouth is a powerful way to acquire new customers and build customer loyalty. If one of your subscribers sends you an email asking for help, help them out as much and as soon as you can. Don't just give them a quick, one word answer. They'll probably just be back asking for a little more information. Just go ahead and tell them what you can, and be nice about it, even if you think itís a stupid question. Solving problems is what builds businesses.

7) - Don't Use Hype ( I know I already said it, but it's that IMPORTANT) I'm sure you've seen this before. It seems to be everywhere you look people trying to hype-up their offer to make it sound better than it is. Most people just want you to be straight with them. If you just stick to telling the truth about a product, without making it look like hype, your subscribers will have much more respect for you. Personally, I think its stimulating when someone sends me a sales letter and outlines how I can benefit from it without trying to make it sound better than it is. Most people can tell the difference, and will most likely be turned off by the hype. Don't say it unless you know it to be true. That's what honesty means.

When you combine all of these keys, you'll build a stronger relationship with your subscribers and they will stay loyal customers for years. All you need to do is find a way to include all of these keys into your business marketing strategies, and you'll soon find yourself getting new subscribers, building relationships with and earning customer loyalty day in and day out. Remember that your customers want to be your friends and they want to feel included. Don't mess with that and you will be far ahead of your competition.

Tell you what: The next time you go shopping for a discretionary product (one that you wouldn't normally buy unless you had a special need or there was a special circumstance), try to write down what's going through your head as you consider a purchase. I do want you to try that, but I'll go ahead and spare you the suspense.

Shoppers think that their needs are UNIQUE. They Are Not. Let me explain... Here's a list of what your prospects are thinking about while they consider making a purchase:

1. Will it do what it says it will do?

2. Will it be easy for me to use?

3. Will it take a lot of my time to work?

4. Is this the only solution to my problem, or will it require others?

5. What if it doesn't work?

6. What if something goes wrong?

7. Can I afford it?

8. What will my friends, family, or peers say?

9. Do I really need it?

10. Am I sure that I know enough about it?

11. Am I sure I know enough about the company selling it to me?

12. What if this is not the right version?

And no matter who they are, or what product they are buying - those questions occur during their decision making process. Please notice the following about those questions: There are virtually no questions about the "up side" of ownership.

They're all based on Failure or Risk Scenarios. Now I'll ask you the Sixty Four Thousand Dollar Question: Are you letting your prospects into your sales process without answering all of those questions?

Here's another one - are you trying to answer those questions with just the features of your product? If you even hesitated answering (BTW - no one wants to answer 'yes' to a question that makes them feel silly) then you're losing a LOT of sales. Not to worry - I have a solution.

Your job is to sell a "Heroic Ownership Experience"

There's 2 parts to this: Before you can even begin to "close a sale" (and this goes for online AND offline companies) you have to persuade the prospect of these 2 things:

Their purchase is SAFE, and it is SMART. Answering every one of those 12 questions will leave the prospect feeling that they've made the right decision, and that they've eliminated as much risk as possible because they're buying from you. But that's not all you have to do to "Sell the HOE". In our case study, Dave did a half-days worth of work on product positioning and his company's sales process. The result was an extra 68% Net Profit from one of his product lines.

Here's what he did: He worked on his Company Value Proposition AND his Product Value Proposition. Very simply, he answered all the questions that a customer has (from that list above), but he answered them in a very sneaky way... He simultaneously made the customer feel SMART and SAFE all while introducing the feelings of Excitement and Desire. When you do that, you have sold the Heroic Ownership Experience. You've sold your HOE.

Here's a little template for you to use: Say that the prospects question is "Will it be easy for me to use?" The answer is not JUST "Yes"... You tell them: Advantage: "In our tests, the vast majority of customers are up and running within [a short time frame]" Advantage: "We've create an easy set of Step-by-Step instructions that will get you [benefit]" Benefit: "Using this [product] is so easy that you'll [get a huge benefit] so you can [get more time to do more or something else with another benefit]"

Here's a practical example: You're thinking about buying a Learning Remote Control.

* "And don't worry, this LRC is so easy to use that the vast majority of our customers are up and running within 7 minutes!

* That's because we've created simple, step-by-step illustrated instructions and put them in every package - just follow the steps, and in less time than it takes to make a cup of coffee, your LRC will make that clutter of other remotes obsolete!

* With your LRC, you'll save 70% on those expensive batteries, never have the frustration trying to find a stray remote at that critical moment, and automate your media or home theater experience just like those huge & expensive custom installations have - but at less than a fraction of the price."

Do something like that (and BTW, a half-hearted attempt is superior than no attempt at all), watch your conversion rates SOAR. Once that's done, you've got to...

Are You A S.A.D Business Owner?

Yesterday's post talked about the all-too-common problem that we business owners share..

Not enough TIME:

* Not enough time to implement all the things we KNOW we should be doing

* Not enough time to learn what new stuff we COULD be implementing

* Not enough time to even enjoy the fruits of our labor.

We get caught up in the daily grind of our businesses and often end up feeling like we have a J.O.B. in our own companies. And here's something that will make you depressed - You know all those endless hours you're spending feeling like you're rolling a boulder uphill day in and day out? Studies show that only about 2.5 of those hours are actually used for *productive work*.

The rest of our extra-long work days are spent with trifling distractions - a million tiny little things that seem like they constantly need our attention, and they need it NOW!

Today I want to talk to you about what you can do to start TAKING BACK those lost hours, getting MORE DONE in LESS TIME, freeing you up to spend *your* time the way *you* want to. Maybe that's having more time to get back to being the visionary you need to be to grow your company. Maybe that's spending more time with your family or taking extra vacation time. It doesn't matter.

Systematize, Automate, and Delegate. That's how I personally escaped the grinding, boring parts of working in my business. And now you can too!

SYSTEMATIZE: First, we need to systematize some of the more repetitive tasks you do. Start by making a list of everything you do day by day. Get granular - break your list down into discrete tasks. Be as detailed as possible, and do this over the course of a week or so.

Then when you have your huge lists (and they will be huge, when I did this for one week I had 35 pages), you want to go through them and look for patterns. Look for the things you seem to do over and over, every day. That's what you want to target first. Your role in your business should be the innovator - find new ways to make more money. Find new stuff that WORKS in your business. If you find yourself doing a particular task over and over, guess what. It's WORKING. So it's time to get set up to hand that task off.

Next thing is we're going to repeat the same list process we just did, but now we're going to go microscopic. Break that one task down into every individual step that is required to complete it. Make the list as complete as possible. One thing I've done before is actually use a webcam or screen capture software and actually record myself doing the task and narrating each step out loud. The goal here is to create a set of instructions - a step-by- step guide to completing this task. Often you'll find that the routine tasks you do every day are ones that require no creative or input from you. They're just busy work, and that's NOT the best use of YOUR time.

Now it's time to decide if you can AUTOMATE.

AUTOMATE: This is where technology is your best friend. There are a TON of gadgets and software solutions out there designed to help small businesses like ours. Look at the task you've just systematized and consider if it's a task that could be completely automated. You might be surprised at how much stuff you find yourself doing every day could be eliminated by using an automated solution. I'll give you a personal example. Now, I do a LOT of video - you may have seen some... In this last campaign, I had tons of different videos, in a ton of different file formats and I needed to get them into a single unified format so I could assess the content easily. I used to load them all up into an application by hand, and wait for them to export, then do it again and again. That's a *lot* of work to do one at a time. It turns out that the latest version of Adobe Premier CS4 has the kind of batch encoding that I could finally use. The CS4 Media Encoder bactched them all overnight. AND when the encoding was done, it popped the shiny new files right into a project. DOUBLE Savings!

So decide if you can Automate your task. But you know, sometimes it's not possible. Sometimes you need a little human intervention and software or gizmos won't do the trick. If that's the case, we STILL might be able to get it off your plate.

DELEGATE: If the task requires a decision, does it have to be YOUR decision? Is it the kind of thing some else could evaluate and make a call on? If so, now it's time for the "D" in S.A.D.: Delegate. Hand that task off to someone else. It's possible some of you folks reading this might not even have any employees. Guess what? If you have more than 5 of these repetitive tasks in your day that you could delegate... It's time to hire some help or outsource your tasks. With the time you will save by eliminating your wasted hours, you could THEN focus on the things you would rather be doing - the things you SHOULD be doing. For me, that was getting back to being the "big picture" guy in my business. It was focusing my attention on the stuff that I could do to market better, get more traffic, make more sales, etc. It freed me up to GROW my business so much more quickly that the cost of the hiring I had to do was negligible. I was making WAY more profit and I had WAY more time. And that's what I got into business for in the first place. How about you? :)

From the time you start work until the time you quit for the day, you spend most of your time on fulfillment - making sure you meet your initial obligations to your first-time customers. Whether it's making sure your packages are shipping or following up on QC or support, most of your "work" time is spent on tiny, nitty gritty details of your business. By the time you're done, you have almost no energy or braincells left.

If you've got a small amount of time left over, you're doing what you THINK makes sense for growing your business. Your whole business development "plan" (if you could call it that) is all about finding NEW customers.

After all, NEW customers = more business, right? That's true. It does. But if you're like 80% of other small businesses, you're stuck in a vicious cycle just like this. You get NEW customers, spend almost all your time fulfilling their orders, and then you get more new customers, and spend almost all your time fulfilling their orders, and then you get... See what I mean? The more customers you get, the less time you have to work on getting more - eventually you hit a FREEZE point...

You just can't seem to grow your business, and you don't seem to have ANY time to even think about why. Well we're going to fix that right now. Tattoo this on your arm (or at least commit it to memory).

But once you've won that victory, you can (and SHOULD) continue to trade on that "warm fuzzy" feeling you've created for your customer. Unless you DON'T want to make as much money from as little work as possible... But like we stated before, most business owners are way to preoccupied with focusing on fulfillment of their initial sale. They never even get around to developing a portfolio of offers that they can make sequentially to the customers who already know, like, and trust them. They're easier to market to than new customers, too. You've already got their contact information, and you know what they've already bought. And best of all, they're easier to FULFILL than new customers. They're already in your system, you've already ironed out any issues they may have had with their first order. Hopefully, they're well satisfied, feeling SMART, SAFE and happy, too!

So the next time you get a spare minute to work on business development, try to come up with the SIMPLEST, FASTEST additional offer you can make. Upsell, Cross-sell, Bundle, whatever - just get ONE more item that you can sell to the folks who have already bought from you.

The key is SIMPLE and FAST. I'm not saying you need to lower the bar when it comes to quality, but you don't have to try nearly so hard to keep them happy with your subsequent offerings. They're no longer a skeptic, and they've lowered their defenses. You're no longer one of "them" - you're on the inside of their circle. So by shifting your focus onto your EXISTING customer base and selling more to them (even just a tiny bit), you will actually REDUCE the amount of time you have to spend focusing on fulfillment yourself. And considering how easy it is to automate the process of marketing new offers to your existing customers, you'll be making even MORE MONEY at the same time.

My suggestion for what to do next? Use some of that extra cash to HIRE HELP to handle ALL the fulfillment day-to-day hassle. Get yourself out of that J.O.B. at your own business and get a little taste of FREEDOM. What you do with it is up to you, of course. You can just slack off with that free time and extra cash, OR... You can reinvest your time on MORE "big-picture" activities that will REALLY grow your business and your bottom line.

Once you're maximizing your income from every customer you have, THEN it's time to focus on getting new customers. You'll simply have way more resources to work with - more time to spend and more cash to invest in marketing, lead generation, and everything else.

Whether you like it or not, a new kind of internet is here.

A "videoized" internet.

Ten years ago, video was not common on the internet. But today, video is becoming a standard for websites.

(Want proof? Google bought YouTube, the online video sharing site, for $1.65 billion in stock!)

What does this mean for YOU? You must ask yourself if you are going to keep up with the new "video" standard or not.
